I started CrossFit with Iron Cross Athletics back in September. I can’t believe how much I’ve learned and my own capabilities. I’m in the best shape of my life. I’ve lost inches everywhere in the 4+ months that I’ve been with ICA and have gained SO much muscle. I’ve learned how to eat better and I’ve learned that shorter workouts can actually do more good! Who knew! So here’s a little shout out to Nikki and John for the outstanding job they do at ICA. Up until 3 years ago I was NEVER a workout or sports person and was very overweight. I never dreamed I’d get to where I am today. All this to say, you CAN do it, it can be done – you can have a better, healthier life! – E.C.

Today marks my one-year anniversary with ICA and I have to say it has been one of the best things I did for myself. After attending your free introductory session, I knew immediately, this is what I needed. A well organized and structured program that does not waste time and best of all provides personal professional attention. I was looking to lose weight and just feel better… in the past year, I’ve lost approximately 20 pounds, and appreciate the strength that I have within me to try something new (crazy to think I could do a hand stand… or climb a rope, I thought kids only did that) and I have drastically gotten stronger (I love squats!!). But above all, I appreciate your concern for the safety of each and every one that walks into your box, I’ve seen and worked out at some other boxes, and I’m so glad I started my CrossFit journey with you guys. I just wanted to send you both a thank you for the past year of CrossFit. A year from tomorrow is the first time I ever did the baseline, and I was hooked after that.  If you told me I would be where I am at this point in my fitness and lifestyle I would never have believed you. Your community has changed my life and I know it has changed my wife’s as well. We have both made some great friends that we hope are life long and you two are among them. John and Nikki have in-depth experience in CrossFit (both from the participant and coach side). The membership at ICA represents a diverse background of life experiences, abilities and strengths. One across-the-board characteristic is that every member of ICA is ready to give you positive encouragement and help you do well…. So much of this can be attributed to the environment fostered by the owners, as well as the coaches.  I’m very pleased that my first CrossFit experience was at a place like Iron Cross Athletics.  Each CrossFit affiliate is unique and comes with its own set of programming and personalities.  There is a sense of camaraderie among the ICA membership and I’m happy to be part of it. – E.B.

Exactly one year ago I walked through ICA doors for the first time and met Nikki and John and got my ass chewed up and spit out… Never would I have imagined that it would change my life and my perception of fitness and health so significantly. I can honestly say I am now I am the strongest, healthiest, the most bad ass version of myself I have ever been because of ICA. A huge thanks goes out to all of those who have inspired, motivated and challenged me to push myself to my limits. Special shout out to the coaches for their invaluable instruction and knowledge and impeccable ‘cues’ (yelling). To Nikki and John thanks for checking up on me after the first day and making sure I didn’t die. I did come back and I now can’t imagine what my life would be if I didn’t!! – P.Z.

I’m a 45 male who has had 3 surgeries in the past 3 years, including back, knee and a full hip replacement. Over the last 25 years, I have been a member of various gyms and fitness centers.  However, I was not seeing any results. I lifted weights, spent 30 minutes on the elliptical and still, no results.  I was overweight, tired, sluggish and getting worse.  I needed help getting in shape, fast!

I heard about “CrossFit” as a fitness solution as well as saw the “insane-type workout” infomercials and decided to see if it was for me.  I searched the web and found Iron-Cross Athletics.  I met with John for my initial 1-on-1 “baseline” assessment and it was eye opening; both the workout and my poor shape.  It was only about 20-30 minutes, but it felt like a 2 1/2-hour gym routine.  It was a mix of basic, full-body exercises, joined together to maximize results.

As part of the assessment, John sat with me and went over my strengths and weaknesses.   He explained that my hips needed strengthening/flexibility and my core was soft. Also, my cardio needed some work, but not to worry.  He explained that he would coach me through the group workouts to ensure I worked on my weaknesses and challenged my strengths. On the first day, I was shocked. The group was made up of various aged men and women who were supportive and encouraging.  It was like we were all were part of a team – it was great.  I was free to work out safely, at my own pace.  I left exhausted and ready for more.

I have trained at ICA for a couple months and I have never been in better shape. I have lost about 10lbs of body fat, I feel much healthier and have lots of energy. The coaching from John, Nikki is TOP notch. They are very skilled at seeing your potential and pushing you to achieve your personal best.  So, if you want to lose weight for the summer or maybe just get healthier, this IS FOR YOU!!! I have participated in CrossFit for the last 3 years. During that time I moved around a lot and was part of several different CrossFit gyms. I trained under some really good coaches and met a ton of good people along the way. With that being said, the overall coaching and knowledge provided by the ICA coaches is far superior to any gym I was ever part of. In my experience, the most knowledgeable people at any gym are the owners, yet at other gyms they rarely coached classes and always seemed disengaged from members. That was not the case when I came to ICA, and it is easy to see that ICA has genuine interest in all of their members. From the first WOD (aka: the warm up), to the end of class, ICA coaches are involved. Some people say CrossFit is too expensive, but when you get the kind of training provided by ICA its money well spent. -M.G.

Last January and February I came to I.C.A. to potentially start working out again.  During the assessment, you [John] were puzzled about the condition of my knees and suggested seeing a physical therapist/chiropractor that you frequently work with.  Instead, I went through cortisone shots that did nothing, then synvisc shots that did nothing, and finally my doctor gave me braces and more physical therapy.  I switched doctors because I wasn’t getting any answers.  My new doctor told me right away that I have chondromalacia patellae of both knees.  The reason that I am explaining all of this is that you heard the crunching in my knees and took the time to actually listen to them, whereas my first doctor never bothered.  All of your clients should rest assured that you know what you are doing and are always looking out for them.
